The Tiguan got a major overhaul for the 2025 model, with a full-on redesign for its third generation that came with tons of new features and upgrades. Because of this, the 2026 model rolls over largely unchanged, but there is one major update to get excited about: a new trim with a new, more powerful engine.

The Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo is now available with a souped-up 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that cranks out 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, providing a noticeable increase in power and additional thrills for shoppers who want a little more oomph out of their family SUV.

All models also receive an upgraded Travel Assist system that allows the driver to initiate lane changes on the fly.

This setup comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission and can be optioned with either front-wheel drive or 4MOTION® all-wheel drive. With FWD, the Tiguan with the standard motor gets an estimated 26 miles per gallon in the city and 34 on the highway.

The upgraded motor found in the SEL R-Line Turbo benefits from a larger turbocharger and a variety of beefed-up engine components resulting in an increase of 67 horsepower. It also comes standard with 4MOTION® all-wheel drive.

All models also come complete with Driving Mode Selection that features four modes: Normal, Eco, Sport, and Individual. 4MOTION® models also come with Active Control with four modes for Onroad, Snow, Offroad, and Offroad Custom for even more versatility on different terrain.
